The Lower Niagara

Steelhead fishing on the Lower Niagara River in the gorge - Chris Cinelli, Guide and Captain

Fly fishing for trout and steelhead in the creeks surrounding Buffalo and the Niagara Region is quite popular. There is a salmon run in September and October followed by prime Steelhead fishing in October and November. Steelhead season continues through May. The current record steelhead trout was caught August 2004 by Rob Wilson of Ohio - 31 lb. 3oz.

The Lower Niagara and Lake Ontario host the NRAA annual Steelhead contest in the icy waters every February.

The Upper Niagara

The Upper Niagara, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario are known for bass fishing. There are plenty of fishing guides to help you learn the area and give you a chance to catch some of the biggest Smallmouth Bass in North America.

Use our Niagara Region fishing guide finder to help you pick a Captain by port of launch and fish species.
